Hometown: Ojai, California (Los Angeles area)
Current City: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
Considers self: an artist
and: an installation artist
Is also seen as: a video artist
Artist Statement:
My work is idea-based, so the materials I use are inspired by the ideas I am considering. Recently, discarded items seem to interest me more than others. What is left behind often tells more than what is promoted. Stitching, video, working with kids, non-artist groups, and collaborations all figure largely now in what I am doing. Everyday, our relationship to the natural world seems more obviously unsustainable. As the time and place for reflection in contemporary life shrinks, I find the imperative to capture the gaze, the imagination, the critical faculties of viewers/participants becoming even more urgent. I am drawn to working within those fissures where assumptions can be seduced toward questioning, toward action, toward critical thinking.
